Contracts in obligation law can be categorised into three fundamental groups.

  1. Contracts of Transfer. These grant the creditor a real right over the object, which is enforceable against any third party. This category includes sales contracts and loan contracts.
  2. Contracts of Use. These grant the creditor an obligational right that is enforceable only against the other contracting party. This group includes loan-for-use contracts, hire-purchase contracts, licence agreements, etc.
  3. Contracts for services. These include service contracts such as construction, design, and transport contracts, agency contracts such as commission and freight forwarding contracts, banking transactions, and storage contracts.

The following sections will provide a more detailed examination of sales contracts, gift contracts, exchange contracts, loan contracts, service contracts, construction contracts, and leasing contracts.
