Introduction

The European University for Cross-Border Knowledge Sharing (ACROSS), and specifically the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and the University of Udine (Italy), organized the “International Summer School on Bilingualism and Multilingualism” (ISSBM 2022), which took place at the Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany), from the 12th to the 16th of September 2022. The international summer school has been organized for all those students interested in the field of Linguistics with a focus on bilingualism, multilingualism and second language acquisition. This summer school offered an immersive and interdisciplinary learning experience on multiple aspects related to multilingualism, including sociolinguistics, languages in contact, pragmatics, semantics, and prosody. The students had access to cutting-edge research and practical applications through interactive workshops and discussions with leading experts in the field. The summer school is an excellent way to improve one’s network as it brings together students from all over the world who share similar interests. The interdisciplinary approach of the ISSBM 2022 provided participants with a deeper understanding of the importance of multilingualism in today’s globalized world and by participating students gained valuable insights and experiences that will benefit them in this early stage of their careers.
The summer school has been financed by ACROSS – The European University for Cross-Border Knowledge Sharing and the German Academic Exchange Service / Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).
This book of proceedings was written by several students who participated in the summer school.
